Had a wonderful line in self-deprecating humour and I loved the way he exhorted us to get off our collective arses and go see some bands playing live. Some great comments from you regarding music in your formative years. Parents choice of music often shaped their kids tastes, but I have to say mine hated the Pistols etc. Then again, half the country was up in arms over punk rock so I guess we were rebelling in our own way.Steve Langtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00759586159893673244noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4148418880996714969.post-33746434748231803262008-08-26T14:37:00.000+01:002008-08-26T14:37:00.000+01:00Wow! When I was a young boy, I mostly only listened to my parents record collection. Whatever they were buying is what radio stations in our area mostly played the same thing. This is when disco, etc. was very popular. I have listened to many of the bands you listed here over the years. I bet this was an exciting radio program. I do like how he implored people to get out and catch live shows. Don't just stay inside and listen to the tunes played on his show.Keithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14832710800680256206noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4148418880996714969.post-28582250611774347222008-08-26T08:03:00.000+01:002008-08-26T08:03:00.000+01:00Thanks, Ned. I'll certainly have to pick up that bio asap. As you say Teenage Kicks was a fitting farewell to a great man.<BR/>Cheers for stopping by, Ned.Steve Langtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00759586159893673244noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4148418880996714969.post-59000922406133311482008-08-26T01:40:00.000+01:002008-08-26T01:40:00.000+01:00Great post, Steve. Always loved that "Teenage Kicks" was his favorite song and how fitting that it played at his funeral. FYI, a biography on Peel was released not too long ago.Ned Merrillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15436251586131278302noreply@blogger.com
