SOMETHING FOR THE WEEKEND

Taken from one of the finest debut albums ever, Patti Smith's 'Free Money' is, for me, the standout track on the legendary 'Horses' album.

Hope you enjoy this version recorded in 1976. I was lucky enough to see her gig at the Birmingham Odeon in 1978 and rate it as one of my all-time top 10 gigs.

  1. One of my favorite songs from Patti. Maria McKee does an incredible cover of it live as well.

  2. Hi Jeremy.
Good to see you back and hope you had a good break away from your excellent blog.

I'll be sure to check out Maria's version if I can find a clip. I recall Pauline Murray from Penetration did a blistering cover, too. She had one of the best voices in Punkdom.

  3. Did you know she modeled her early look on Keith Richards? Have you read Please Kill Me a cracker of a rock 'n' roll read

  4. Yes, I knew about her fascination with Richards. Have yet to read 'Please Kill Me', but will endeavour to do so. One of my most prized possessions was 'The White Bitch Comes Good' double album boot which I had to sell a few years back. A seriously great artist.

  6. Cheers, Keith. 'Free Money' is so many things: powerful, poetic, fierce, yet refined.

Hope you had a great weekend, mate.
